President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that Ghana and Burkina Faso are actively exploring the launch of a daily direct flight between Accra and Ouagadougou. The new service is expected to play a pivotal role in boosting trade and enhancing economic cooperation between the two West African nations.
During a press briefing on March 10, 2025, President Mahama explained that establishing a daily flight will streamline the movement of goods and people, thereby reducing trade barriers and lowering transportation costs. “This initiative will create a more efficient trade corridor and open up new opportunities for our exporters and importers,” he said.
The proposed flight service is part of a broader strategy aimed at improving bilateral relations, which includes plans to enhance energy cooperation and extend Ghana’s fuel pipeline to Ouagadougou. These measures are expected to support not only trade but also regional integration and development.
Mahama emphasized that the initiative is still in the discussion phase with aviation authorities and potential airline partners. He expressed optimism that the daily Accra-Ouagadougou flight will contribute to economic growth by facilitating faster and more reliable connectivity between the two capitals.
The move comes at a time when regional economic integration is a priority, and both nations are keen to leverage their strategic locations to become trade and transit hubs in West Africa.
