The Executive Secretary of the National Peace Council for the Central Region, Dr. Charles Ohene-Amoah, has appealed to the government and relevant stakeholders to provide stronger Peace Council support through financial and logistical assistance.

He made the call during a three-day training workshop organized by the ECOWAS Peace and Security Group (EPSG) for journalists from the Oti, Savannah, and Upper West Regions.

Dr. Ohene-Amoah explained that limited funding has weakened the council’s visibility and restricted its peace initiatives, which often gain attention only during election periods. He added that inadequate office spaces and logistics at the district level have also affected the council’s operations.

“Providing vehicles and consistent funding to all district and regional offices will help them engage communities more effectively,” Dr. Ohene-Amoah stated. “This will enhance our ability to address the growing threats of extremism, violence, and chieftaincy disputes that hinder national development.”

He commended journalists for their role in promoting peace and responsible reporting, noting that the training had strengthened their conflict-sensitive communication skills.

Other regional directors, including Paul Okornor Okpoti of the Oti Region and Kennedy Attepo of the Savannah Region, supported the appeal. They acknowledged that, despite limited funding, the council continues to make significant progress in reducing violent conflicts and promoting stability nationwide.

The directors urged the government to increase Peace Council support to sustain and expand peacebuilding efforts across all regions of Ghana.
