The Ghana Police Service has refuted circulating claims that part of a recent drug seizure had mysteriously turned into sawdust.

According to the police, the case involves a Kia truck with registration number ER-760-23, which was intercepted on September 30, 2025, along the Sekesua road near Asesewa in the Eastern Region.

A search of the vehicle revealed that while it was half-filled with sawdust, it also carried 36 sacks of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

The truck was impounded and taken to the Sekesua Police Station, but the driver and his mate escaped and are currently being pursued.

The seized bags remain in safe custody at the Eastern Regional Command, with police urging the public to ignore rumours that the narcotics had somehow turned into sawdust.

Meanwhile, the Police Professional Standards Bureau has opened an inquiry into the case, while broader investigations continue.

The service has assured the public of transparency and accountability as the matter progresses.
