Police in the Volta Region uncovered a smuggling operation on Tuesday, May 13. They intercepted a fuel tanker loaded not with fuel—but cocoa beans. The tanker was moving from Madina in Accra to Jasikan.
Investigators believe the beans were meant for smuggling into Togo.
The vehicle, registered GN 3801-13, is now in police custody. Officers arrested the driver, who was later granted bail. He is helping with investigations.
A police spokesperson shared the update in Ho on Saturday, May 17. The operation followed a tip-off and happened in the Peki area.
Officers handed the seized cocoa beans to the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) for safekeeping.
Meanwhile, police have launched a search for the tanker’s owner, who remains on the run.
Authorities say further arrests could follow as the investigation continues.
