President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama have arrived in Beijing, China, to take part in the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women, an international forum jointly hosted by Chinese President Xi Jinping and UN Women.

The high-level event, taking place from October 13 to 14, aims to reaffirm global commitments to the Beijing Declaration and accelerate progress toward women’s empowerment and gender equality.

Celebrating Global Milestones

This year’s summit marks two major milestones—the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations and the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, originally held in Beijing. These anniversaries serve as a reminder of the world’s ongoing commitment to gender equality and inclusive development.

President Mahama’s Agenda in China

While in China, President Mahama is expected to champion policies that promote women’s empowerment and gender equality, key themes at the forum. Beyond the conference, he will also engage in bilateral discussions to strengthen Ghana–China relations, explore trade and investment opportunities, and foster sustainable partnerships.

President Mahama is scheduled to hold talks with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang to explore new areas of cooperation between Ghana and China. Additionally, he will meet with top Chinese business leaders and host a Presidential Investment Forum aimed at connecting Ghanaian entrepreneurs with Chinese investors and enterprises.

Official Delegation

Accompanying the President are key government officials, including:

Dr. Callistus Mahama, Executive Secretary to the President

Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Presidential Advisor and Special Aide

Shamima Muslim, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson

Nana Yaa Gyantuah, Presidential Staffer

Their presence underscores Ghana’s dedication to strengthening diplomatic ties and supporting policies that advance gender equality, trade, and sustainable development.

Strengthening Ghana–China Relations

The visit is expected to deepen Ghana’s long-standing partnership with China, focusing on cooperation in trade, infrastructure, and social development. President Mahama’s participation in the Beijing meeting highlights Ghana’s leadership role in promoting gender inclusivity and economic growth across Africa.
