Presidential candidates in Ghana’s 2024 general elections convened in Accra on Thursday to sign a peace pact aimed at ensuring a peaceful electoral process.

The two leading contenders—Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)—were present at the Kempinski Hotel to personally commit to the peace pact.

The signing, the fourth of its kind, was organized under the auspices of the National Peace Council and the Institute of Democratic Governance (IDEG).

The event brought together key stakeholders, including the Chief Justice, Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo; the Chief Imam, Sheik Nuhu Sharabutu; former ECOWAS President, Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas; the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa; and other presidential aspirants.

This collective effort underscores Ghana’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability during the election season.
