Economist Professor Godfred Alufar Bokpin has questioned the feasibility of the NDC’s 24-hour economy plan. He argues that Ghana’s unreliable power supply makes such a proposal unrealistic.

Speaking on Joy News’ Newsfile on Saturday, May 17, Prof Bokpin said the country can’t even maintain stable electricity for an 8-hour workday.

“You don’t have enough power to support an 8-hour economy, yet you promise 24 hours?” he asked.

He described the energy sector as one of the country’s biggest economic threats. “Besides illegal mining, the energy crisis keeps me up at night,” he said.

Prof Bokpin criticized both major political parties for mismanaging the sector. He stressed that politicizing energy issues worsens the problem.

He revealed that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) loses about 40% of distributed Mahama Hailed as Beacon of Hope by Nungua Mantse efficiency.”

Prof Bokpin added that energy reform is part of Ghana’s agreement with the IMF. “There are clear targets under the IMF program. Government must explain these steps to citizens,” he said.

He concluded that slogans like the 24-hour economy are hollow if structural issues remain unsolved.
