Asante Kotoko captain Samba O’Neil has publicly apologized to the club’s fans following their disappointing exit from the CAF Confederation Cup. The Porcupine Warriors were eliminated after a 6–1 aggregate loss to Moroccan side Wydad Athletic Club.
Kotoko’s struggles began with a narrow 1–0 defeat at the Accra Sports Stadium in the first leg. The return match in Casablanca turned disastrous as the Ghanaian giants suffered a 5–1 loss, sealing their early exit from the competition.
Speaking after the game, O’Neil admitted the outcome was hard to accept.
“It is difficult to take, but we apologise to our fans,” the Congolese defender said.
He added that the players remain determined to make amends through domestic competitions.
“We need to keep our heads up and win both the league and the FA Cup to compensate for this loss,” he added.
Despite the setback, the Samba O’Neil apology has been met with understanding from many supporters who appreciated his leadership and honesty. Kotoko will now turn their attention to the Ghana Premier League, where they aim to recover form and compete strongly for trophies this season.
