Security forces continue to crack down on illegal mining in the Samreboi Forest of the Western Region. On the fourth day of the operation, they arrested 21 more suspects, pushing the total to 47.
The arrested individuals include 39 Ghanaians, eight Chinese nationals, and four Ghanaian women. Authorities caught them mining illegally near the Tano River and in protected forest reserves.
Security teams also seized 17 excavators and a bulldozer. Officials believe the equipment was used to destroy large sections of the forest. During the raid, they recovered firearms and ammunition from the suspects.
The first group of 26 arrested individuals has already been sent to Accra for prosecution.
Security personnel remain active across the region. They aim to clear out all remaining illegal miners and dismantle their operations.
