The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has postponed the Special Voting exercise for the Eastern and Western Regions to Thursday, December 5, 2024. This follows the recall of ballot papers for the presidential and parliamentary elections due to concerns over the integrity of the materials.
Initially slated for Monday, December 2, the rescheduling was announced by EC Chairperson Jean Mensa during an emergency Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting in Accra on Sunday, December 1.
The decision came after a broken seal was detected on electoral materials in the Eastern Region. While there were no reported issues with the Western Region’s ballots, the EC took a precautionary step by recalling and reprinting ballot papers for both regions, as they were produced by the same printing press.
Special Voting in the remaining regions will proceed as originally scheduled on December 2.
Jean Mensa reaffirmed the EC’s commitment to upholding the integrity and credibility of the electoral process. She appealed for patience and cooperation from stakeholders as the Commission works to address the issue and ensure smooth elections.
This proactive measure underscores the EC’s focus on delivering a transparent and credible electoral process ahead of Ghana’s general elections on December 7, 2024.
