Deputy Interior Minister Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi has backed the recent armed security raid on the home of NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi. He compared the operation to confronting a wild dog—stressing the need for full preparedness.

A joint team of National Investigations Bureau agents and police officers carried out the raid early Friday morning. They acted on a search warrant backed by intelligence. Officials have not released details of the warrant.

Tensions rose quickly. NPP supporters rushed to the scene to resist any attempt to arrest Wontumi. The standoff raised questions about whether the officers used excessive force.

Critics compared the incident to recent security operations targeting Ken Ofori-Atta and Dr. Ernest Addison. They claim these actions form a pattern of political intimidation.

Terlabi rejected those claims. “The security services are well-trained and follow the law,” he said. “No one is above the law.”

He explained that Wontumi’s past statements against security officials and the President warranted the officers’ readiness. He added, “Preparedness doesn’t mean they wanted to harm him.”

He urged party members not to interfere with lawful security operations. “Calling supporters to confront the police only escalates tensions,” he warned. “If anyone believes the officers acted wrongly, the courts are the right place to seek redress.”

Terlabi concluded by emphasizing that legal processes—not public resistance—must guide how grievances are addressed.
