For the first time, TikTok will establish a direct payout system in Ghana through a partnership with GCB Bank, making it possible for local content creators to access their earnings without relying on international platforms.
Communication Minister Sam Nartey George revealed on JoyNews’ PM Express that TikTok has agreed to send a special team to Ghana. Their mission will be to provide training sessions for creators, helping them build capacity and maximise monetisation opportunities on the platform.
We’ve been engaging with TikTok and bloggers’ associations. For the very first time on the continent, TikTok is flying in a team to assist Ghanaian creators with capacity ,building to improve their monetisation,” Mr George stated.
Alongside this training initiative, the Ministry of Communications has also secured a deal with GCB Bank to serve as the official payout channel for TikTok earnings in Ghana. This is a significant step given the absence of PayPal services in the country.
“We have set up an arrangement between TikTok and GCB Bank to create a reliable payout channel for our content creators. While we continue discussions with the Bank of Ghana on broader digital payment solutions, this new channel will ensure creators can easily access their income,” Mr George added.
In addition, the minister disclosed that government is finalising a Misinformation and Hate Speech Bill aimed at regulating harmful content across both digital and traditional platforms. The bill, which has already been drafted, will soon go through stakeholder engagements before reaching Cabinet and Parliament.
These interventions, according to Mr George, reflect Ghana’s broader strategy to strengthen the digital economy, protect information integrity, and empower the country’s rapidly expanding creator community.
