The Managing Director of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), Dr. Yussif Sulemana, has announced that the refinery needs an estimated $25 million for a complete revamp to resume full operations. This strategic investment aims to overhaul TOR’s aging infrastructure, improve safety standards, and boost production capacity to meet the country’s growing energy demands.

Dr. Sulemana made his remarks during a press briefing in Accra on Monday, March 17. He emphasized that the proposed $25 million will be used to modernize outdated equipment, streamline operational processes, and bring the refinery’s output up to international standards. “Securing the $25 million is critical for the TOR full revamp. With this investment, we can restore TOR to its full capacity and reduce Ghana’s reliance on imported petroleum products,” he stated.

In addition to infrastructure upgrades, Dr. Sulemana revealed that the revamp would create job opportunities and enhance local expertise in the energy sector. Discussions with several potential investors are already underway, indicating strong interest in supporting the refinery’s revival. He further noted that the successful revamp of TOR would not only improve national energy security but also contribute to the broader economic growth of Ghana.

This significant investment in the TOR full revamp underscores the government’s commitment to revitalizing critical state-owned enterprises, ensuring that they can meet both domestic and international energy standards in the years to come.
