Alfred Tuah-Yeboah, the former Deputy Attorney General and Minister for Justice, says Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo is fully entitled to challenge her removal process. He emphasized that she can legally contest every stage of the constitutional proceedings.
Speaking on Newsfile on JoyNews, Saturday, May 24, Tuah-Yeboah explained that the Chief Justice, like every citizen, deserves a fair hearing and legal protection.
“If she believes her rights are under threat, she can challenge any part of the process,” he said.
He highlighted the Supreme Court as the correct forum to resolve such issues. The court, he said, ensures that constitutional procedures are properly interpreted and applied.
Addressing concerns about Godfred Yeboah Dame representing the Chief Justice, Tuah-Yeboah clarified that Dame now operates as a private legal practitioner. As such, he is free to accept briefs from any client, including the Chief Justice.
“The state picks its lawyers. The Chief Justice can also choose someone she trusts to defend her,” he added.
Tuah-Yeboah urged the public to respect the legal process and allow the courts to do their work without unnecessary speculation or political bias.
