Two individuals have been arrested for allegedly attempting to bribe officials in a bid to influence the Senior High School (SHS) placement of their wards.
The Deputy National Coordinator of the Free SHS Secretariat, Dr. Belinda Glover, confirmed the arrests and warned that any effort to manipulate the computerized school placement system would be met with strict legal action.
Dr. Glover explained that the suspects were caught after presenting several placement request sheets, an act that raised suspicion. She said genuine applicants usually submit one or two requests, but these individuals arrived with five or more — a sign of foul play.
“Some people come here with five or more placement sheets. Once that happens, it’s clear they’re doing business, not seeking help. You can’t claim to have five children all entering senior high school at once,” Dr. Glover stated. “We later discovered that some of them collect money from other parents and come here pretending to represent them. When we find such cases, we immediately involve the police.”
According to her, the arrested individuals have been handed over to law enforcement officers along with the money they allegedly offered as bribes.
Dr. Glover emphasized that the Free SHS Secretariat remains committed to assisting the public but would not tolerate any attempts to compromise the integrity of the placement process. “We are here to help,” she said, “but anyone who tries to tamper with the system will face the full force of the law.”
