The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), received the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Mr. Niloy Banerjee, at the Ministry on Monday, 3rd March, 2025.

During the meeting Mr. Banerjee expressed his delight to serve in and get to know Ghana at a time that the country was going through a transition. He outlined some of the sectors that his organisation was involved in, such as, Energy Transition, Gender Imbalances, Climate Change and Digital Transformation.

Referencing his last post; he indicated that there existed a lot of opportunities for South-South Co-operation between Ghana and other South Countries and called for collaboration and taking advantage of these opportunities for sustainable development.

He informed that the UNDP was working on projects like the Atlantic Corridor Project, which is aimed at preventing and responding to violent extremism in the Atlantic Corridor, indicating that the project had supported the review of the National Framework for the Prevention and Countering of Violent Extremism and Terrorism (NAFPCVET).

He further informed that they were also working with the National Peace Council in the prevention and mitigation of localised conflicts in areas such as the Wa West and other areas in the Northern part of Ghana, others include working with the National Commission on Small Arms to prevent the proliferation of small arms through Ghana’s borders with the launch of the “Saving Lives Entity (SALIENT) Fund Project, the Young Africa Innovates (YAI) Programme for equipping the youth and women with entrepreneurial skills.

On his part, the Minister hinted that the activities of the UNDP were insightful and expressed appreciation to the team for the role their institution plays in Ghana. He mentioned that with the diversity of expertise at UNDP it was important for Ghana to tap into their experience to enable Ghana to achieve its developmental goals towards a sustainable economy.

This he informed could be done through the formulation of strategic policies, clear vision and the capital injection which would steer the Government’s focus on Economic Diplomacy and Industrialization under the 24-hour economy concept. He assured the delegation that the government would continuously collaborate with the UNDP to realise the aims of the Sustainable Development Goals.
