Jonathan Kwateng, driver of the VVIP bus (GT 8213-23), has shared his frightening experience after his bus was swept away by the overflowing River Okye at Assin Edubease.
In an exclusive interview with Radio Fosu/Adom News, Kwateng said the moment felt like “resurrecting from death.” He described the terror on board as passengers — including children and a pregnant woman — screamed helplessly while the bus was dragged by the current.
Heavy rainfall caused the river to flood its banks, creating dangerous conditions for travelers.
Thanks to the swift response from the fire service, all 63 passengers traveling from Winneba to Sefwi Wiawso were rescued unharmed. They had attended a graduation ceremony at the University of Education, Winneba’s main campus.
ASP Wonder Lumor, Central North MTTD Commander, praised the fire service, police, and other stakeholders for their timely and coordinated efforts during the rescue operation.
