A severe windstorm in Wa, Upper West Region, left a middle-aged woman and her two children trapped inside their home. A large fig tree fell during the storm and blocked their only exit.
The family remained stuck indoors for nearly three hours. They made multiple distress calls to emergency services, relatives, and friends.
Eventually, a family member reached the house and helped them escape safely.
Wa Municipal Chief Executive, Issah Nurah Danwanaa, visited the scene after the rescue. He announced that the assembly is working with relevant agencies to remove old and dangerous trees in the area.
Danwanaa noted that Wa has faced several destructive windstorms in recent weeks. These storms have uprooted trees and caused property damage worth thousands of Ghana cedis.
JoyNews correspondent Rafik Salam was on-site during the rescue and reported the event as it happened.
