In the latest Wontumi bail update, the lawyer for Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has expressed confidence that his client will satisfy all bail requirements and be released from police custody by the end of Wednesday, October 8, 2025.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, lead counsel Andy Appiah-Kubi revealed that although the Accra High Court granted bail on Tuesday, the administrative process could not be finalized before the close of day.
“We applied for bail on Tuesday, and the court approved it with three sureties, two of which must be justified. We are now processing the necessary documentation, and by God’s grace, we have individuals willing to stand as sureties and sign the bail bond,” he stated.
Mr. Appiah-Kubi explained that the team is currently completing property inspections and verification procedures required by both the court and the police.
“It was quite late after court proceedings, so we couldn’t complete the process with the police and the court registrar. However, this morning, ASP Godwin, the police prosecutor, informed me that his officers are ready to inspect the sureties’ properties to speed up the process,” he added.
Chairman Wontumi was granted a ₵25 million bail by the Criminal Division of the Accra High Court on Tuesday, October 7, in connection with two separate cases related to alleged illegal mining activities.
The cases involve Akonta Mining Limited, a company associated with him, and reported mining operations in the Nimri Forest Reserve in the Western North Region.
He faces several charges, including undertaking illegal mining and causing unlawful environmental damage. Additionally, the embattled politician has been placed on a stop list, preventing him from traveling outside Ghana until his cases are fully resolved.
