Former Asante Kotoko midfielder and Head of Player Relations at the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), Yusif Chibsah, has expressed strong belief that the Porcupine Warriors have what it takes to overcome Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club (WAC) in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Asante Kotoko are set to host Wydad AC in the first leg of their preliminary round fixture on Sunday, October 19, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Sharing his thoughts ahead of the highly anticipated encounter, Chibsah described the match as a perfect opportunity for revenge, recalling the painful 2002 final where Wydad denied Kotoko a continental title.

“It’s going to be a tough match, but for Kotoko, it’s also revenge. Wydad snatched a trophy from Kotoko in 2002. Kotoko has never lost to them in 90 minutes of football, and I still believe Wydad are beatable,” Chibsah told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

He acknowledged the dominance of North African clubs on the continent, noting that their investment and tactical discipline often make them formidable opponents. However, he insisted that Kotoko can rise to the challenge.

“I strongly believe Wydad can be beaten. The North African clubs invest heavily and have strong systems, but that doesn’t make them invincible. If Kotoko stay focused, disciplined, and take their chances, they can win,” he added.

Asante Kotoko, known for their passionate fan base and resilience, will be looking to make a statement as they begin their Confederation Cup campaign under high expectations.
