Security consultant Professor Kwesi Aning has characterized the last eight years under the Akufo-Addo administration as a period of intense pressure and intimidation, which he says severely impacted his ability to work freely.

Speaking on Starr FM in Accra, Professor Aning revealed how threats to his livelihood, including attempts to discredit him and undermine his professional standing, made his role as a security analyst challenging.

“Earlier on, I could speak and write, and I went to bed in peace,” he shared. “The last eight years have been hell for me, just for doing what I’ve been trained with the Ghanaian taxpayers’ money to do.”

Professor Aning noted that the intimidation tactics ranged from salary threats to efforts to influence his employers negatively. These actions, he said, disrupted his ability to conduct objective security analysis and share his insights without fear.

Looking forward, Professor Aning expressed optimism that the new administration will provide a supportive environment that respects professional integrity and fosters free expression.

“I hope to work in an environment where I can share my expertise without facing constant threats,” he said, emphasizing his commitment to contributing meaningfully to national security.

This is not the first time Professor Aning has raised concerns. In 2018, he disclosed receiving threatening messages related to his media commentary on security issues, underscoring the persistent challenges faced by independent analysts under the previous administration.
