The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has acted decisively against irregularities detected during the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates. Thousands of candidates have had their results cancelled or withheld due to malpractices, with investigations ongoing.
WAEC cancelled the subject results of 4,108 candidates for bringing prohibited materials, including prepared notes and textbooks, into examination halls. Additionally, 483 candidates had their entire results cancelled for possessing mobile phones during exams, a strict violation of WAEC regulations.

The council also withheld results pending further investigations. Subject results for 781 candidates and the entire results of 209 candidates are under review for suspected offences. Furthermore, results from 319 schools flagged for alleged collusion are being investigated, with outcomes to determine whether these results will be released or cancelled.
These actions underscore WAEC’s commitment to upholding the integrity of its examinations. The council expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, security agencies, and stakeholders for their support.
John K. Kapi, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, reiterated the council’s zero-tolerance policy on malpractice, urging candidates and schools to adhere to ethical standards to ensure fair and credible assessments.
